Begonia kapuashuluensis is a shrubby species endemic to Borneo, specifically to the Kapuas Hulu region. In its natural habitat it grows at an altitude of about 100-300 meters, near rivers with high environmental humidity (70-80%) and temperatures around 15-25 ºC. It does not usually exceed 20 cm in height. It has oblique leaves, 1 to 4 cm long, metallic brown in color and an intense red underside. Tiny pale pink flowers. Like other Asian begonias, this species has a metallic blue iridescence that varies depending on the light received.
