Article, My Opinion

Me and Homalomena

Homalomena was the first terrarium plant I encountered, and subjectively, I know it well. The most impressive aspect is the character of the homalomena, which varies from region to region, even if it’s only a short distance away, despite being the same species. Since 2018, I’ve been cultivating homalomena from all over Indonesia; this is difficult due to Indonesia’s vast territory. I still believe that, until now, there are still many types of homalomena that have not been discovered. One more thing, which I will tell you here, is the small homalomena for terrarium purposes.

I am not a researcher who knows the details about Homalomena, but I can visually tell the difference between Homalomena and other similar plants, such as Schismatoglottis and Apobalis. Some homalomena grow near water on rocks or cliffs. several other types I found on damp hillsides. grows in groups under shade trees. Some homalomena that grow near water can even adapt to become aquatic plants. I’ve tried it and placed it in my aquascape.

Since 2018, I have tried various ways to cultivate this one plant; in my opinion, the easiest way to do it is by taking cuttings and cutting the stems. Each segment has one bud. For those of you who have cultivated a philodendron, the method is the same. Until now, I have not tried to fertilize flowers to produce seeds.

Growing homalomena on sphagnum moss and perlite media is simple, in my opinion. Place it in a terrarium tank with high humidity at a temperature of 29°–31°C. The light that I use is an LED lamp; this is enough to grow homalomena well. Again, this is my subjective extension, and I hope this helps.
